I WAS FOUR when I learned that loneliness had nothing to do with being alone.

The house was full. My sisters were beside me. My mother was preparing to bring another child into the world. It was spring, a season that should have meant new beginnings. Instead, darkness was waiting.

As I lay down to sleep, I had no way of knowing that something inside me was about to change forever. The devil was already in the shadows, and no one was coming to save me. Childhood did not simply fade that night, it was taken from me. What remained was a little girl learning far too soon how to survive what she could not yet understand.

I Was Four: No One’s Coming to Rescue You is the story of what happened when innocence collided with fear, silence, betrayal, and survival. It is the story of a child forced to grow up before she was ready, and the woman who eventually found the courage to return to those memories, confront what was buried, and reclaim her voice.

This is not just a story about what happened to me.

It is the story of how I survived it.
